Every output below has a corresponding input. Unknown material composition, an unverified machine option, or an undefined acceptance limit remains visible rather than being converted into a promise.

Provide substrate name, supplier sheet, coating, thickness, part size, and a reference photograph.

A preliminary source and process route, a prohibited-material check, and a list of coupons needed. The screen does not certify an unknown polymer or coating as laser safe.

Recipe development brief

State the desired cut edge, engraving depth, mark contrast, takt target, and visible defect limits.

A controlled matrix for power, speed, focus, passes, and assist settings. Transfer between machine models requires a new baseline because optics and usable power can differ.

Fixture and batch review

Share part tolerance, loading orientation, lot size, operator steps, and repeatability risk.

A fixture concept, origin method, sample labeling plan, and inspection frequency. It does not replace mechanical guarding or a local risk assessment.

Extraction planning conversation

Identify the process, room volume, duct route, permitted discharge, and local controls.

A question set for selecting filtration and routing. Final airflow, emissions, fire, and occupational requirements must be approved by qualified local professionals.

Three trade-offs worth naming early

Speed versus edge condition

Higher travel speed can lower heat input, yet an incomplete cut may demand another pass and reduce net productivity.

Contrast versus surface change

A visible mark may come from coating removal, oxidation, foaming, or color change. Those mechanisms have different durability and appearance.

Open access versus containment

A larger open work area can simplify loading, while an enclosure may improve access control and fume capture. The workspace decides the acceptable balance.

This protocol is intentionally modest. It creates comparison evidence without claiming a laboratory certification or a production release.

    Record the supplier, stock code, composition where known, finish, nominal thickness, and batch reference.

    Control

    Clean the optic and work surface, set focus using the machine procedure, and hold fixture geometry constant.

  3. 03

    Vary one factor

    Change one setting at a time within the documented model range; label every coupon before processing.

  4. 04

    Observe

    Inspect front and back surfaces under the same lighting. Note residue, kerf, warping, incomplete depth, and odor behavior.

  5. 05

    Repeat

    Run the candidate recipe on at least three separate coupons from the same batch before calling it repeatable.

  6. 06

    Release carefully

    Archive settings and photographs, then repeat verification when material batch, optics, source, fixture, or acceptance criteria change.
